Mary Church saw her hot-headed father stand up to a white conductor over her mistreatment when she was a child only to not have the same rights to protect her own children as she got older. Rights being stripped away as you get older has an eerily familiar feeling to what we’re seeing today (in a different context/to a different extent).

Did not know that Plessy v. Ferguson was a PLANNED test case. Although the outcome of the case was bleak, I’m always amazed by the bravery of the black folks before me.

Masturbation used to be called “self abuse” or “self pollution” due to religious misgivings about self-pleasure. Fascinating! Never knew that before this book referenced that term.

Interesting stuff so far. It’s fascinating to read just how much we didn’t yet know about the human body back in the 80’s. They were recommending using a makeup remover as a lubricant back then…please don’t do that…
