Prayer for the day: "Lord, as you have called us to your service, make us mindful and worthy of our calling."

It's not about Republicans or Democrats. It's about Jesus. How do I further his call for love and compassion? How do I embody HIS values?

With the pandemic going on, I am reading slowly, to absorb Cho's ideas. I don't want to be a jerk, but listening to Trump infuriates me. "When Christians pledge blind allegiance to a political power...and cannot objectively evaluate what a politician states or espouses, we travel down a dangerous path. We cease to see the world informed first and foremost by the life and teachings of Christ." This is idolatry.

The character descriptions and development are exquisite, but I wondered where this was going. It's not enough to have intriguing characters.

But last night I reached a pivotal point in the plot, a point I did not expect, and I fell asleep wondering what would happen next. I read a few minutes this morning, and this is darker than I anticipated.

In recent years, I haven't posted anything political. I didn't want to offend; moreover, I don't want my largely conservative Christian friends to judge me. And yet, I am offended by unloving social media posts condemning liberals as non-Christians, vilifying immigrants and people of color, promoting slippery slope, ad hominem arguments even as the president lies constantly. How do I speak up and not be a jerk?

After a couple of chapters, I closed the book and walked away.
