Most of the chapters were backstories about the people involved in the scheme. Vince, Michael, and Ron and how they met to start Alpha Law. Most of the people in this book involved with the scheme are troubled and are in need of quick buck. Dr.Pescato had a messy past and forgot what it meant to be a doctor all for the money. I do not feel bad for these people, but for the victims for being products of this mess

So far I like how they added a map to show the routes of the scheme. It was a lot of info but seeing it visually helped. Doctors are able to make profit by work with these medial loan companies but instead of doing good they do harm. Going through J.R’s part was inspiring hearing about his upbringing and why he pursued law. Always fighting for the underdog

So far so good. It is a challenging read which I don’t mind. It’s awful how these lawyers are targeting women and charging exorbitant prices. All of them have different backstories but it’s wrong to treat them like a paycheck. Also stupid move by the FDA and medical companies for not doing enough research on the device

It was very interesting to see the switch of trying to become a pilot and extra flying scenes and leave being a surgeon. I am glad he was not charged and his father got to pass away knowing his son was innocent. His aid in Africa was insane and I felt the thrill and the lows. I know he tried helping the people from the atrocities even at his own risk and that is what counts even if he didn’t save them all.

Chapters 3 and 4 made me realize how working in a war torn environment really is unpredictable. From the ambulance personnel getting shot, unreliable electricity, having to make tough decisions, not being able to save your patients, even having to ask others for permission (Afghan) he continues his work. He seeks knowledge from learning on the go or joining the military. Truly inspiring works to have read.

The book has immediately captured my attention. I didn’t know that hospitals would let doctors accept volunteer positions to practice overseas. It was incredible to read about his work in Syria and the challenges that come with it such as the Jihad incident he has over the camera. Seeing his POV in his journey to studying medicine was inspiring.

The correlation of Polio an how it affects the nervous system was truly a great way to show how a disease also brought forth an era of growth in healthcare such as the role of anesthesiologists and artificial breathing. Even after that chapter finished the idea of artificial breathing continues in Water. Diving and becoming a medical officer has been as fascination of mine.

So far so good…it’s talking about the auditory cortex and how we perceive music. It even gives a bit of history on why we are able to hear and the science behind that “movement of molecules” originally meant for survival. I hope it goes in more into the benefits of music in a health field or patient-related.

Reached the Trauma chapter and it was sad towards the end. Not everyone can be saved after traumatic events and as doctors it is important to focus on who you can save. Sometimes you see the worst in humanity such as the bomber but doctors are the best of humanity saving others.

Finished the heart chapter. Honestly, to think that the heart was uncharted territory until it was the product of war. I am not sure how ethics were back then, but as the book mentioned cardiac surgery was a last ditch option. It is incredible to see the innovation in other medical fields in relation to cardiac surgery as it became an established specialty.

The fire chapter was very thought provoking because plastic surgery originally came from these military patients who were burned severely throughout war. Modern plastic surgery is often thought for its cosmetics but its roots are far deeper than that. Just started the heart chapter, but it is very intriguing.

The ice chapter was really cool on hypothermia and using it to do “impossible” medical procedures. It opens up a new field of ways to use deep hypothermia. I have began the fire chapter
