Reached the Trauma chapter and it was sad towards the end. Not everyone can be saved after traumatic events and as doctors it is important to focus on who you can save. Sometimes you see the worst in humanity such as the bomber but doctors are the best of humanity saving others.

Finished the heart chapter. Honestly, to think that the heart was uncharted territory until it was the product of war. I am not sure how ethics were back then, but as the book mentioned cardiac surgery was a last ditch option. It is incredible to see the innovation in other medical fields in relation to cardiac surgery as it became an established specialty.

The fire chapter was very thought provoking because plastic surgery originally came from these military patients who were burned severely throughout war. Modern plastic surgery is often thought for its cosmetics but its roots are far deeper than that. Just started the heart chapter, but it is very intriguing.

The ice chapter was really cool on hypothermia and using it to do “impossible” medical procedures. It opens up a new field of ways to use deep hypothermia. I have began the fire chapter
