Still just an average read for me. Characters are okay but life on the streets is a hard context to find connection with - and that just sounds like an awful criticism.

Okay things are vastly improving with this book! Perhaps it was the setting that irked me. The mother has drowned - expressed vividly - baby in pram rolled into river

It has promise but the writing is a bit try hard in places for me! Stoner and Goldfinch writing styles better

I’m still wading through it! Sometimes I’m reading without full immersion, skimming or surface reading! Every now and then a phrase holds great meaning…

A surprising read. Some of the descriptive writing is outstanding. Plain, boring characters that surprise the reader in their ordinariness and lack of depth. I’m not quite finished yet, so far 7/10.
