dropped at 3:49:00ish not because I was disinterested but because- once again- I suck at following through with audiobooks. May or may not come back to this one again (leaning towards not though)

have it on hold right now, but sampled up to the point where Thorin is explaining his family history and the dragon Smaug’s involvement. Figured I should finally get into *the* fantasy universe of all time and see what all the hype’s about.

Dropped for general lack of interest. Maybe also because it’s the only physical book I’m trying to read while getting really into digital these past few weeks.

Lord what’s going on. We really did need antimemetics division god damn. The one thing worse than an apocalypse is an apocalypse caused by the complete unknown. At least with zombies or aliens or whatever there’s some kind of sci-fi base understanding of what we’re up against, but this is something we’d have even less than zero clue about. Scary thought.

Well this is weirdly heartbreaking. I don’t know anything about the Quinns but I feel for their situation. Going in I was hoping for an SCP situation, and it kind of is, but these creatures are more psychological than tangible. Their entire gimmicks are memory erasure and there doesn’t seem to be much variety so far in that area. But it’s interesting even still. I hope Marie and Adam meet again.

This one drew me in with the two arrow Buddhist idea. I wonder how I’m supposed to go about not thinking about pain or disturbances or everyday annoyances. It seems much easier said than done.

We’re in the final stretch and I’m scared. All that’s left to do is kill the Erl King. I’m inclined to believe that this book will have a nice and happy fairytale ending but there’s a chance that it won’t. If anything really bad does happen I’m willing to bet that Brackus is going to die. I don’t know why but I just feel like that has to be it if this doesn’t have a 100% happy ending.

The truth comes out. Little Jenny is dead, and our Jenny sees her in Temperance, in unicorns, everywhere. I honestly feel like the build up for this could’ve been better, and it felt like a lot of telling without showing, although idk how else they could’ve done it honestly. I got genuine chills when the elder unicorn just laid in Jenny’s lap and died, the rest of the unicorns granting the group her horn.

Honestly I’m not 100% locked in but I get the gist. I love dragons so much and that’s why I chose this but this story so far is definitely more about species-ism than it is about dragons really. I should’ve figured as much by the description. I’m a little disappointed but still enjoying it. The vision and garden thing is confusing me just a little bit but that’s my fault for not paying enough attention.

I accidentally posted my update on a different book smh. But I’m glad Jenny and Temperance have made amends. I’m still thinking about the hallucinations though, they were very weird. I wonder if Little Jenny is actually dead and Brackus was the one who told the news to Jenny and that’s why she was so averse to him before. If not, I wonder what he’d told her that made her cut him off. Deep friendship lore..

Yayyy we’ve made amends. But also the hallucinations Jenny saw were interesting. I wonder if Little Jenny is actually dead, and Brackus was the one who told Jenny and that’s why she’d been so averse to him before.

Ah obligatory inter group conflict. But it actually feels natural and completely understandable here. I feel so bad for everyone in this situation. It was a really moral dilemma only made worse by the passion and stubbornness of both parties. I was also afraid that the Afanc would be evil in order to make Jenny miss her party, but I was pleasantly surprised that it was actually the opposite.

This really reads like a fairytale. Little dialogue, lots of time skipping (given that it’s the annual Summer War), and just narration of big actions and events. I don’t hate it or anything, but I think it being an audiobook just playing in the background is keeping me more engaged than if I’d read it traditionally. I’m not super attached to any of these characters, but I don’t dislike any of them either.

Brackus has joined the party! And we have a big bad to defeat, but first we need information from the faerie king. Really enjoyed the mysticism and kind of cosmic horror surrounding the hike through the wild roads. Just love when fae are written like fae.

Goodreads recommended this me after I read Swordheart. I came in expecting romantasy but was quickly surprised when Jenny initially compared Temperance to her daughter. I haven’t read a platonic fantasy in a while. So far this feels like a very fairytale-esque story. I’m enjoying it. I like Jenny’s surprising altruism and Temperance’s well-meaning motive and can’t wait to read more.

Glad that the Malva and Alver thing is finally settled. But suddenly I’m very angry at Bartholomew. I realize that Halla doesn’t know the full extent of his involvement and the fact that he literally kidnapped Sarkis, but if her first thought when she finds out isn’t “I know where you live, I’ll burn you and your house down in your fucking sleep” then I won’t know what else to say.

I knew we were gonna have wielder problems eventually. Malva is desperate but that’s gonna be her downfall. Zale being there completely fucks up their plan regardless of whether or not they and Halla are able to escape it. Sarkis is the one in real danger. For some reason I’m really uncomfortable with this forceful wielder stuff. Such loss in autonomy is terrifying.

Things are heating up in the house of justices. I really like Zale, they’re cool as hell. I no longer have any suspicion of them. Bartholomew though remains to be seen.. I don’t trust him fr. We’re not super close to the end, but I’m having a hard time predicting what our climax and/or Malva’s big countermove will be here.

Yo this sword’s a freak. The book is keeping it surprisingly tame though, glossing over that little jerk off moment he had. Bartholomew is a rat, he’s gonna sell us out I just know he is (probably gonna tell the magistrates that Halla plans to help her nieces).

I’m locked in. I’m glad there’s not instant attraction going on. The only thing I’m waiting on is if there’s some kind of catch to this guy’s curse, or if our main goal is going to be freeing him from it somehow. I wonder why he ended up with it in the first place. So far our only real overarching problem is being wanted for the guardsman’s murder, so I hope we get another problem soon.

I’m so happy that all the servants have come up with some sort of solution. Even if Lady Culver suffers somewhat for it, a win is a win. We can’t make everyone happy.
