The fact that our whole food production was the result of science experiments angers me.
That even knowing all this I still crave a Coke enrages me.

Three percent of the book in and I'm already fuming.

I'm shelving this for now. I want to read it, but I'm not in the 35-hours-audiobook headspace.

I had been wondering about something in particular, something fairly big in terms of theme, and boom, one of the main characters dives right into it.
Perfection.

Shelving it for later.

There was a shift in the story/scope that I can't quite put my finger on, but it hasn't detracted from my enjoyment.

This audiobook is 35 hours long. 😳

I found a used physical copy of this book in a bookstore, and picked it up immediately.

The Fatima prophecies! A secret society that has been guiding the process of creating the next humanity! Cyberware as the vehicle for human/android synthesis! The threat of a new war between ACTUALLY God and Satan for the new souls!
This book.

The chapter of her overnight rise to social media fame and the imposter syndrome it engendered, not to mention the inevitable trollish backlash, and how she made peace with it all, was excellent.

Probably should've done this book before Next Level Plot, but it's still a great source of info on story beats.

Ok, so perhaps audiobook isn't the ideal format for a book on the writing craft. I'm getting use out of it for sure, but I've accepted that this is more of a first pass, and that I need to get the physical copy from the library for a more in-depth read.

It is so refreshing that the story so far develops in Nigeria, with a few scenes in the Vatican and Vienna for the token western locations.

Now, this is a much better book on the craft of writing.

Sped through the second half on my commute home.

A quote from Wolfgang Baur? Various mentions of RPG settings like Jorune, Spelljammer, and Planescape? Yup, this book was written by a gamer.

Needed a new audiobook, and went with this short (3.5 hours) one on writing craft out of curiosity.

Mmm, gelato.

Final stretch. The writer made a decision that will cost him at the time of scoring, but the story is still excellent and I'm looking forward to the final resolution.

Oh no! Heartbreak.

What I've learned from reading Sanderson so far (only 1.5 books, but I don't think I'm wrong):

His plots are tight, but he's in no rush to resolve them. He's got a story to tell, and you buying the entrance ticket means you wanna sit through it for a long as it takes.

I was starting to get a little anxious about the "speed" of the story development, but understanding this has made me sit back and enjoy the ride.

A PROPHESIED APOCALYPSE (in both the popular and Greek sense of the word) GOING BACK TO FATIMA HELD IN SECRET DOCUMENTS INSIDE THE VATICAN NOW BEING FULFILLED IN THE SYNTHETIC POPULATION!

This novel was made for me.

“One more thing, Father, before you retire,” the [possessed] synth called after him. “If this is real – if your species has done what we suspect – consider what His response might be,” said the synth looking up at the high altar. “It would make our rebellion almost trivial by comparison.”

A couple of chapters in and we have a reborn Holy Roman Empire in a future Earth with ultra-fast vacuum travel pods, synthetic humanoids/synths/androids aka artilects, an exorcist who is also an expert on AIs, and an artilect legitimately possessed by a demon because "Hell" is super intrigued by these artificial humans.

YES! I'm so in.
