Mmm, gelato.

Final stretch. The writer made a decision that will cost him at the time of scoring, but the story is still excellent and I'm looking forward to the final resolution.

Oh no! Heartbreak.

What I've learned from reading Sanderson so far (only 1.5 books, but I don't think I'm wrong):

His plots are tight, but he's in no rush to resolve them. He's got a story to tell, and you buying the entrance ticket means you wanna sit through it for a long as it takes.

I was starting to get a little anxious about the "speed" of the story development, but understanding this has made me sit back and enjoy the ride.

A PROPHESIED APOCALYPSE (in both the popular and Greek sense of the word) GOING BACK TO FATIMA HELD IN SECRET DOCUMENTS INSIDE THE VATICAN NOW BEING FULFILLED IN THE SYNTHETIC POPULATION!

This novel was made for me.

“One more thing, Father, before you retire,” the [possessed] synth called after him. “If this is real – if your species has done what we suspect – consider what His response might be,” said the synth looking up at the high altar. “It would make our rebellion almost trivial by comparison.”

A couple of chapters in and we have a reborn Holy Roman Empire in a future Earth with ultra-fast vacuum travel pods, synthetic humanoids/synths/androids aka artilects, an exorcist who is also an expert on AIs, and an artilect legitimately possessed by a demon because "Hell" is super intrigued by these artificial humans.

YES! I'm so in.

Needed something on e-book while on the boat.

This is a generational story, and I am here for it.

They finally kissed! I know it took all this time because it's a YA romance, but sheesh.

I'm pushing myself to finish at this point, TBH.

I'm liking that Sanderson weaves through science fiction and fantasy seamlessly. I also very much enjoy his worldbuilding, and the unique worlds that are created with just a few key details.

This book is actually a tour of Battuu's Black Spire Outpost and all its shops with a story about... mysterious deliveries? Double-crossing mobsters? Teens pretending they're not into each other when they obviously are? I'm not sure.

I'm reading this book in the spirit of the slow Italian life it's describing, and taking my sweet time, savoring every story and anecdote, many of which remind me of my recent trip to Italy. 🤌

It feels like a sci-fi YA novel that was placed in the SW universe so every so often they say something SW-ish to remind you. It doesn't detract from the story, mind you, and I am enjoying it, but it'll be interesting to see this continues, or if it gets truly Star Wars-y.

The author is Ecuadorian.
As far as I'm concerned, that last name is pronounced Gar-see-ah.

It seems to be a YA-ish romance-ish story set in the Star Wars universe, and I'm here for it. I'm also a sucker for ship-and-a-crew stories, and haven't read one in a long time.

I enjoyed Tess of the Emerald Sea, so I jumped into this second standalone Cosmere novel.

I got this book used because: one, gelato in the title; two, it immediately reminded me of my recent trip to Italy; and three, a need to keep myself immersed in the spirit of travel. It was quite the surprise, then, when I later realized the author was someone I had followed on social media for some years, enjoying her videos about life in Italy. Serendipity.
