I understand her interest in getting to the bottom of why her family might be involved but there's truly nothing tying her to this plot other than her wanting to be there. Three spies, an attempted kidnapping, and a ring does not a caricaturist make. I appreciate her commitment to the bit though. Idk what James is doing. Pining?

I couldn't really get into it at first but the introduction of Stephan definitely saved the plot for me in the early pages. There's still some parts that I feel bored and like the mystery plot could be done better but I like Calliope and her entourage. James doesn't do much but I don't dislike him. Fingers crossed the pair can keep me entertained in Stephan's absence.

And after that whole bullshit church chapter where Mike basically ripped Bree's heart to shreds and humiliated her in front of Toby, I now have to deal with Lucy getting upset at Panda for getting a vasectomy. Good lord what kind of Twilight adjacent religious propaganda is this? This might be a hate finish if I don't DNF it.

God this is a slow read; I'm going at my normal pace and yet this feels like it's taking forever. I'm enjoying it, I suppose, but it's not as easy of a read as I had hoped. Also, I know Big Mike is supposed to come off as charming but he's honestly just annoying to me.

I was suspicious about who Tony's parents were but after the confirmation I'm just pissed off. Myra made BREE of all people Toby's guardian knowing her lying ass best friend and cheating ass man were his parents. Just ew. I don't care that she's dead, that's so gross of her.

No real comments other than the fact that she should have seen Panda working for her parents coming lol. Also, why is she following him? I'm honestly just along for the ride, can't tell how I feel about this book yet.

It's almost like Kiera Cass read my damn mind and knew that I (or any readers, honestly) would never forgive Maxon unless Marlee expressly came back and asked me to. I won't oblige her, but I'm happy to know that she is safe, married, and as happy as she can be given the circumstances. The lack of Aspen these past few pages are notable, Maxon needed center stage for his redemption arc. Ugh. THE BOOKS. HER DAD. NORTH!

Not only am I DISGUSTED by the treatment of Marlee and Woodwork, I'm disgusted that the Maxon we've all been primed to fawn over as the main love interest is just completely okay with it all. Sure, they could have been killed but my god, I'm truly appalled. I'm not sure he can come back from this for me. AND THEN DAYS LATER AMERICA GOES ON A DATE WITH ASPEN LIKE SHE LEARNED NOTHING!? I'm sick. I'm sick and I'm angry.

Oof, not sure why but this book is a bit harder to get into than The Selection; perhaps it is due to the overwhelming time spent on the love triangle over anything else, the previous book had a bit more balance. Also, the previous book was a re-read while this is a first time read. Marlee is definitely hooking up with that guard America ran into near the bathroom. Her immediately telling her dad about the books.. ugh

It started off a bit slow considering I was stuck on the first two chapters for almost a week, and I've made almost all my progress today. Despite this, I've found myself falling for Evelyn just like everyone else. Her sections of the book are so much more captivating than Monique's, though I hope at some point Monique becomes compelling herself. Only time will tell.
