Cat Winters has an enviable ability to mix historical fact with shivery paranormal mystery and make it seem utterly real. I am as fascinated by the story of this budding suffragette as I am by the possibility that she has otherworldly Sight.

Lots of platitudes, plenty of ho-hum. I've had better, more fascinating conversations with my girlfriends over a glass of wine. In fact, there's better stuff on dozens of blogs these days. This is certainly well written, I'll give it that. But that's about all I can give it.

I knew it. Had to take it back without finishing.

Oh, who am I kidding? This is the kind of book I never get to finish because I always have to take it back to the library. But it's well written and fascinating and I hope I can get through it in time. I also hope it explains how to teach your System 2 mind to be more diligent...

Second time started and failed to finish. While the writing is excellent, truly capturing Wilkie Collins' voice and style, I just can't drag myself through the story.

After "The Double Bind" I ran right back to my library for more Chris Bohjalian...

I like the ancient Persia/Sumeria setting, not crazy about the alternating voice of the chapters and "love at first sight" silliness
