I love a good conceit and the idea of the Trojan war era seen through the eyes of Achilles’s buddy Patroclus seemed like a winner. But this was just boring. I wasn’t buying the concept of Patroclus as he emerges here; he’s too much of a loser to ever impersonate Achilles and he’s way too literate to be an Ancient Greek hero. I’m sure there’s a point to this but I’m not willing to listen to the end.
