First time reading romantasy knowing its a romantasy and I kind of dig it. Oskar and Guinevere are giving off Shrek and Fiona vibes minus all the farting and burping (might still happen idk). The way the strong and stoic Oskar is slowly opening up to our sweet and dainty Guinevere is so sweet to witness. Guinevere is also a little h*rndog by how often she describes Oskar‘s chiseled features. She down bad fr haha

Currently lots of fighting with monsters. Descriptions are not necessarily evocative or interesting and I end up just rushing through those pages. Wishing it was like the previous book cuz I feel like I don‘t really know the characters on a deeper level. Hope it gets better.

Our protagonist is a bit short-sighted with his wishes since he could just wish something like guns or corruption away but I think this is more of a character-driven introspective journey of his last days on earth. The chapter on movies kind of irks me though since he basically took away the joy or “sonzai-igi” of his friend Tsutaya who‘s life revolves around movies. Not yet finished with the chapter though

Thought it would literally be a hypothetical analysis of a world devoid of kitties but I was mistaken. Found a story about a dude who deals with the message of his terminal illness by making a deal with a devil to prolong his life. The dude takes the message semi-nonchalantly but I think thats totally relatable lol. The devil is fun and his ex-girlfriend is fine, too. But cabbage… nobody harms cabbage!

Justice for Hatsumi. Nagasawa is an asshole, but Hatsumi is way too clingy. I wonder what made her be that type if person, chasing after someone who will never reciprocate her needs. Midori continurs to be a pick-me, but I think thats her way to convince a man to stay with her being all sexy and appealing like that. Her and Torus relationship feels so off.

Midori is pretty much a pick-me towards Toru, and doesn’t she have a boyfriend? Well, Toru is warming up on her as she shows more of her vulnerable side about her family’s situation. I feel sympathy for her difficult situation, but does it justify her being such a pick-me? I think she just wants to find companionship who’d distract her a bit from her real-life problems, and I guess Toru is kind and sexy idk

And the amount of sex talk and the like is crazy. Big ick everytime since its always not done out of affection but for satisfying that sexual need or suppressing the feeling of loneliness. As of now, he seems to have feelings for Naoko, so that jerk-off scene might have been one of the only times he did it with affection in mind. Yuck though, didn’t need to know that.

Relate to Naoko and Reiko on their perspective as individuals in an uncertain world. Naoko experienced so many traumas at her young age, and I‘m afraid she‘s clinging on Toru for too much. I assume he‘ll develop feelings for Midori. Reiko‘s backstory was fucked up, to say the least. I would‘ve never expected this book to handle suppressed queerness like this.

Relate to Naoko and Reiko in their perspective of how they relate to the outside world. Poor Naoko experienced too many traumas at her young age, and I’m afraid she’s clinging on Toru for too much. I assume that Toru will develop deeper feelings for Midori. Reikos backstory was fucked up, and that this book would deal with suppressed queerness was not something I‘d expect.

Feeling more sympathy for Naoko. Reiko is lovely and a great friend to Naoko. Naoko is such a complex person now that we know more about her relationship and with Kazuki. Toru is growing on me as he seems to start to mature out of his promiscuity. I think he‘ll fall back on his old patterns once he meets Midori though, since he seems fond of her, too.

Toru is decent I guess, but I’m weirded out by the sex scene with Naoko and how he interacted with her during and after that. Miss girl was in shambles and thats the only way to console her?! Nagasawa has a weird influence on Toru but he is at least funny. Midori seems super cute but mysterious, and I’m excited to know more about her. And leave Stormtrooper alone! He‘s the only weirdo I actually adore.

Shit‘s gettin real! Love the botanically twisted body horror descriptions.

Took a while for the story to get going. Beautiful prose with its macabre botanical touch but the author sometimes has a hard time getting to the point. Now that the action is picking up, excited for whats to come.
