It's talented writing when the author can bring out emotions in their reader like shock, disturbance and for Astrid total hatred. I don't like her character at all. Not even a little. She's a hateful, jealous and weak character. She comes off as sociopathic.

Omg. I want to slap these characters out of the novel’s pages. How snobbish, I really don’t like this cast whatsoever. Especially Cressida. What a spoiled BRAT. There is nothing at all wrong with what he professor said to her about her art. She’s a total drama Queen, spoiled and delusional. Her father is a menace too. Good grief. I hate this family. I don’t even care if their daughter comes back. Harsh, yes.

I love JCO’s work. I love her writing style A LOT. But this book of characters is so infuriating. I can’t stand Juliet or Cressida, but Zeno makes my stomach turn even more at times. I do feel horrible for Brett’s mother though, and Brett himself. But not much is disclosed of Brett so I don’t really know who he is in depth as a character. I only know I want to sock Zeno in the eye. He’s a piece of crap.

I’m not far into this book and his mention of David Paulides caught my attention. It’s because of Mr. Ballen and David Paulides that I decided to pick this book up. And WOW, author seriously needs to tone the condescension down a tad. Just.... Wow. SMH

This is the age we live in, now every book, even fiction, has to have some political agenda behind it. I miss the books from the 90s and early 2000s. There was an actual story there without the contempt for others scientific findings and theories, or political affiliation. Smdh Add to this the endless amount of unnecessary swearing, from a kid no less. It’s trashy, and I’m starting to not enjoy it anymore.

This book is hard to stomach, for some reason. I just can’t fathom a human being treating another human being the way Shelly treats people. It’s literally making me queasy reading further, so I don’t know if I’ll finish it or not.

6 years ago I closed this book never expecting to return to it. Here I am today, stuck on chapter 12, and I can really care less about the murderer. It’s a chapter from his perspective and I don’t know what in the world it has to do with the story. It’s so uninteresting and although I am curious to read on just to finish this book so I can read the next one in line, I’m struggling to get through this chapter.

Not a fan of their glowing review of Lincoln... Lincoln was a tyrant and he did not respect the Founders or the constitution. To claim he was abiding to the Declaration of Independence is tragic and irresponsible. I am enjoying this book though and am learning quite a bit. I’m on the fence about the religious overtones though.
