last few chapters were rough. i genuinely cannot stomach discussions of sex involving women, especially when sex workers are involved 💔 im not a misogynist and i'm very glad these kinds of discussions happen i'm just very very gay and sort of repulsed by the idea or discussion. it DEFINITELY wasnt bad it was js a little hard

rosalia i think you MAY have sugarcoated the racist language😭 but its ok we move on

this is way less in-your-face compared to no longer human, so i really need to slow down to understand all of the metaphors and commentary dazai's using/making. also, while i think yozo is a more complicated character (and i like him more even though he is quite awful), i don't see much misogyny with how kazuko is written. she's js a bit... shallow? so far? she has little written about her own outlook on the world

okay so its not bad but its trying WAYYY too hard to be quirky. darius keeps adding extra unnecessary details, using the phrase "categorically opposed", and calling everyone by their full name in his head. he also restates location/group names a lot, like We get it bro. We get it ur a nerd. stop referring to things by their "level"

why was this book 1054 lines long

i really wish the characters were more clear. i had to google who everyone was and what side they were on like 10 times (though that's a given with literature from several thousand years ago)

i think fitzgerald's translation of the iliad might just have been the most boring thing ever because this translation uses some complex language but in an engaging way like i genuinely enjoy it (hate the dude who wrote the intro tho. he's different from the translator but he was blatantly racist and misogynistic)

finally switched to the correct edition, yay

Just finished book 2, dear God I hated the part where it was just. People on people on people on people on people. It's just like reading the book of Numbers all over again.

Also I'm reading a different translation, for me 128 pages is 20% through
