I started chapter 1. Pope Leo reaffirms that the Church does not seek to overpower politics or science, but that the Church's social doctrine provides a foundation for discernment about how to serve the common good. I can't help notice the references to Pope Francis' encyclicals and documents from the Second Vatican Council. Very interesting.

The story, characters, and many things they discuss are very interesting. But I take issue with either the translation or the editing or both. Certain passages can be entirely skipped over. I suppose they drone on to convey the feeling of one character listening to another (being lectured to or talked at), but I feel it is just too much. Invested in the story though.

Pope Leo XIV introduces his letter with two images from the Old Testament. On the one hand, the construction and destruction of the tower of Babel. On the other, the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem. Technology can be used in such a way that dehumanizes us and attempts to reach Heaven "without God's blessing," or it can be used for the common good of all people. Let us choose wisely how we use it.
