I honestly do not think I'll finish this. I painfully read the fanfic, Manacles, and screamed over and over how much this needed an editor. Now that this had an editor, I was hopefully they provided direction and cutout the repetitive content that barely moved the story forward. Nope.Clever shift from magic to alchemists but so far not enough context to the history these characters are supposed to have.

I love Zara but geez I don't understand why she's still believing anything the Empress says. We live in such doubt and insecurity sometimes that it's painful to listen to from the outside.

This is my least fav out of the series! Allison is completely oblivious, annoying and dulu! She's had a man act like her boyfriend but they call each other "best friends" for YEARS and gets mad at him for his efforts to see him as more w/help. She's annoyingly stubborn and pushes Luke away tirelessly throughout the entire book. I was tempted to not finish this when she tried to push him away AGAIN at the end.

This is turning into an addiction and I'm not sure yet why...

Just tell him already and be with him...😠

I was warned this is different than the play and movie...so far it is ...weird.

Glad I'm reading the graphic audio the multiple voices is helpful. The constant background music makes me feel like I'm listening to a movie. Waiting for the next shoe to drop though...

First unexpected hit @ 19%! There was SO much to unpacked in the first few pages. You are immediately slammed with so much world building in the first few pages I felt the need to pause a few times, had the urge to write it out and connect dots.

IDK yet. It's not better it's not worse though I thought I'd like this a little more but I'm finding Emma naive and annoying yet again.

Put off reading this for a bit and before I knew it I was over an hour in! How did it hook me not sure but I'll keep reading.

Re-reading in prep for my first Book Club party this weekend! Started with part 1 of the dramatized version which was FANTASTIC - only to be disappointed part 2 won’t be released until 2/9 🤬 Regardless, I’m hooked all over again!

My fellow speed reader recommended this, and tbh, when was the last time anyone read about a cowboy? Cue in the country men. Oh, and this is book 1 of 4! Let's see if we can get passes the Hallmark movie-like town of Chestnut Springs first.
