I’ve just finished reading the introduction by Norman Denny [the translator] and am kind of nervous.

Victor Hugo [the author] sounds like he’s an absolute waffler that may indoctrinate me with some 1800’s French political propaganda.

But seriously am having it brought to the surface of my attention the importance of a good translation, and how many strong opinions there are on what makes a good translation.
