Very interesting so far. The book jumps back and forth between three time frames. The Dyatlov groups journey, the search for the lost hikers, and the authors trips to Russia to research and investigate the incident. The book gives a very good description of what it was like to live in Russia during the late 1950’s.

Interesting portion of the book regarding the battle between the ABA and NBA to sign players and how salaries were structured in each of the leagues. The ABA directly led the NBA having to offer high salaries due to the competition between the two leagues.

Very long chapter detailing the history of the Indiana Pacers in the ABA, highlighting players and coaches individually. Definitely can tell they were a true team, even as they talk about each other 30 years after playing together.

As a kid growing up in the early 70’s, in a crazy sports family, this book brings back a lot of memories. I like how the author gives a summary for the end of each ABA. So far very entertaining.

Book has circled back around to the Dahlia case. Last 50 pages have been hard to put down. Only 30 more to go, but need sleep. Will finish tomorrow.

Once again the authors description of Tijuana makes you feel like you are actually in the Mexican streets in the late 1940’s. A very grim portrayal.

The Dahlia case becoming less of a focus as the book heads towards its conclusion.

Like reading a film noir. Good characters, very much get a feel of the time period, LA in the early 40’s. Lots of examples of how cops operated before there were Miranda warnings.
