Understanding your transgressions are directly against God is crushing. But the insight Ortlund gives from Jesus’ heart - that He is the one most suitable to forgive them - is reassuring.
“We cling to Him, to be sure. But our grip is that of a two-year-old amid the stormy waves of life. His sure grasp never falters. Psalm 63:8 expresses the double-sided truth: My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me.”

Heb 5:2 “ignorant and wayward” is a way of distinguishing two types of sinners, ignorant and willful. So to say Christ can deal with ALL sinners.
“What elicits tenderness from Jesus is not the severity of the sin but whether the sinner comes to Him. Whatever our offense, He deals gently with us.” (If we come to Him with repentance obviously).

“Our tendency is to feel … as we sink further into pain, we sink further into felt isolation. The bible corrects us … We are never alone. That sorrow that feels so isolating, so unique, was endured by Him in the past and is now shouldered by Him in the present.” Based on Hebrews 4:15

God is pleased when we obey. Jesus also feels joy when the sick come to Him for help. He is not impatient or frustrated when we come for fresh forgiveness. “He gets more joy than we do when we come to Him for help and mercy.” “He is not drained by our coming to Him; His heart is filled all the more…” We should not fail to come boldly. Heb12:2 the joy set before Him is the joy of seeing believers forgiven.

Jesus is merciful. This is not at-odds with His wrath. Understanding the just wrath of Christ gives us deeper understanding of His mercy.
His heart is of true compassion for those who suffer.
“When Jesus, the Clean One, touched an unclean sinner, Christ did not become unclean. The sinner became clean.” (Contrast w culture)
“sickness, disease, pain and death seem natural. In fact, they are the interruption”

Really enjoyed the emphasis that one’s heart is not just dictated by emotion. Rather, it is “the center of who we are” and it “defines and directs us.” So for Christ to say, “I am gentle and lowly in heart,” is to reveal His central character.
“The posture most natural to Him is not a pointed finger but open arms.”
“What helium does to a balloon, Jesus’ yoke does to His followers.”

This guy sure can yap. A very detailed, emotional rant to describe himself reveals a lot about his character. Happiness in the real world is fleeting to him, so he dreams. He is envious of those who can enjoy life, lonely, and, though he finds some happiness in dreaming, he understands that spending so much time there has allowed the days to pass him by. He struggles with either being too distant or too absorbed.
