It’s such an absurd story but I just feel sad

I feel Cal’s sorrows in my bones.

Cathy is so unbelievably evil. Wow

I don’t want this book to end

I am noticing a pattern with the Hamilton’s and I’m scared

Cal you devastate me

I love Tom

“Don’t let me be mean” Oh Cal I’m already crying :’(

I can see the dots connecting now

Oh Adam, you poor delusional thing

If the glory can be killed, we are lost.

Cathy Ames… what a peculiar character

The Hamilton sons each had a page of introduction and the daughters were lucky if they received more than one sentence.

I am enjoying the rest of the world building, however.

There’s a lot of blatant racism and misogyny. I’m not sure if this is Steinbeck’s voice or the narrators.

“You have to know him”

Oh my god

So far, the book has painted a gorgeous picture of the Salinas Valley. I’m a bit horrified by the description of the Native Americans, however, as it was so explicitly racist it kinda caught me off guard.
