Pg. 66 “Let’s set our hearts on something more than the applause of man. Let’s focus more on making certain that God has our whole heart, weeds and all, in complete surrender to Him. His goals are our goals. When we never want to be anywhere, but in His will, we never get lost.”

Pg. 66 “He loves your gifts of service, and He sees them—but He does not require them. What you do for Him is not what you are worth to Him. He wants your heart. He sees your eagerness to please Him even if you feel as though all you have to offer are weeds”

66 Their joy is ur joy, & the whispers of their <3 matter to urs. It’s no different w/ God. He knows what u desire, what u need, what u feel is missing. If it matters to u, it matters to Him. He is a God of details who cares about ur life. Don’t worry about identifying just yet that thing ur soul is whispering. U’ll get there. For now, rest in the knowledge that God knows what it is, & in His time, u will too.

Pg. 66 “I want my children to know that their interests and goals are important to me, and I want to see them achieve whatever they feel God is calling them to do. As a mom that’s my heart for them—and it’s God’s heart for them and for us.”

Pg. 65 “Motherhood is filled w/ moments when our egos are threatened to gather their teeth once more, hungry to show our existence & importance in the world. That’s the path to popularity here, to carry our accomplishments high on our shoulders for the world & our social media followers to see. But God sees the work of your day that no one else sees. He sees the baths drawn…”

Pg. 65 “Once we humble ourselves & accept this incredible responsibility of mothering w/ servant hearts, we can worship God w/ our work. We will always be a reflection of Christ when we find ourselves humbly serving others.”

64-65 “Only now do I see that my acts of service for my children can be offered up as worship to God. We can serve the ones placed in our care w/ the love we ourselves have been lavished w/ by Jesus. The Q is “Are you taking the time to tap into the endless well of His love, to acknowledge all of the ways He has been good & kind in your life?” We can’t give what we aren’t consciously aware that we have.”

Pg. 64 “I could have viewed it as an opportunity to worship God by serving my family. At the time, however, my heart was not in a position of worship. I was too stubborn and prideful, attending my own pity party decorated with streamers of self-importance.”

Pg. 64 “All of those late hours tirelessly working at the office translate into an endurance you’ll need when a little one is sick & sleep is nowhere to be found… God wastes nothing when we are using our skill set & our hearts to follow & honor His will.”

Pg. 64 “God will meet you where you need Him most. He will go to any lengths to communicate His love to you—Jesus is proof of that.”

Pg. 63 “This everyday grind that threatens to pull you down & wring you dry of inspiration is not bigger than the purpose that God has put on your life w/ the children in your care.”

Bodies are being nourished. This calling to raise children and praise God while doing so is nothing short of extraordinary… You’ll never be more important than who you are to God— and your family.”

Pg. 62 “When the laundry is piled high, the children are screaming, and you feel like running away, He is there in the chaos, a witness to the work no one else sees. You have been called to this moment, and God knows you can handle it… with him.”

Pg. 60 “I apologize to my children frequently–for raising my voice, overreacting, not playing w/ them the moment they ask. The list goes on & on. Some ppl might argue that doing so gives children too much power or control in the home. I don’t subscribe to that belief in the least. I want my boys to learn empathy & to know that I’m a work in progress.”

Pg. 60 “In so many ways, the mother in any home is the hub that makes the entire family wheel turn. When we accept this truth and the great responsibility that it carries, we can humbly give thanks to God for entrusting us with the holy work that takes place at home. The preparation we provide our families makes all the difference in how they experience life.”

Pgs. 59-60 “Making your home a place where peace reigns matters. I know it’s difficult to separate the things that must be done from how they make us feel as we do them, but once you master the art of finding the true meaning behind serving your family with this kind of work, it becomes easier to do it with a willing heart.”

Pg. 58 “I’m always amazed at how quickly my home goes from clean to cluttered when my kids are just simply living their lives in the house. I’ve heard from many friends working outside the home that their homes stay cleaner longer simply because they aren’t there most of the time. Ours is a blessed, albeit frustrating, problem to have.”

Pg. 58 “When I’ve left the boys with him to run errands, I often return to find him wondering aloud how I ever get anything done during the week. It’s often just the validation I need to continue being the Wonder Woman of my own home.”

Pg. 58 “After you’ve spent time learning what he feels are the keys to a peaceful home & sharing your own thoughts, start the negotiations. What will he do & what will you do as you both work to keep your home running well? Know that the bulk of the housework will most likely fall to you–not because you’re a put-upon housewife from the 50s, but because you’re the one who is home the majority of the time.”

Pg. 57 “Not to mention, if you’re working hard to make sure his shirts are ironed each week, but all he really wants is a freshly vacuumed living room when he gets home, you’re wasting time as a partner to your husband in a way that doesn’t really make him feel loved the way he prefers. This goes both ways, of course.”

Pg. 57 “Laying the groundwork for task division is so important because housework usually has more emotion tied to it than it should.”

Pg. 57 “If you haven’t discussed housework already in your relationship, now is the time to talk about it: Which household tasks really matter to him because they make the difference between a house that feels chaotic and one that feels peaceful? What chore do you absolutely hate and wish you never had to do again? Talk about it.”

Pg. 57 “When we married our husbands, we promised to be a partner, and with that promise comes responsibilities. I encourage you to think about what you know of your husband and what he needs from you. (I know, at this point you might be thinking that you can’t possibly give— and shouldn’t have to give—any more than you already do. But keep reading. He’s not off the hook either.)”

Pg. 57 “Before any kind of decisions can be made about who does what, there needs to be an acknowledgment that things are different now. You are in the home, and he’s at work. For him, life might very much look the same during the day except for your text messages reminding him that he’s later than he said he would be and that it’s been a long day for you. For you, life looks nothing like it used to.”

53-54 “If what we produce or work for isn’t permanent, is it still worth doing? It might not feel like it is, but even temporary work has permanent results. All the little things you do over & over everyday are seen by God. If you could watch your life like a movie on fast-forward, you would see that the dishes, laundry, books, snuggles, tantrums…add up to a life of authenticity & love.”
