I've read several Adventures - all very good so far. I'm also watching season 1 of Sherlock Holmes on PBS which are very good. They follow Arthur Conan Doyle's stories in the modern day World in London. Excellent acting and very detailed - you can't look away or you'll miss a clue!

Charlene is reading Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail
Wow! Read this on recommendations from my sister Pat and friend Brian and so glad I did. TY! I loved the descriptions of the scenery throughout the author's hike of the Pacific Crest Trail. I appreciated her sharing of where her life was at and why she decided to hike alone. I have to say she is one brave, strong, and determined woman! Inspiring in many ways. Great read!

This book is interesting but tough to follow. I seems to be jumping around or going in directions that make no sense to me. I'll have to continue and maybe it will make more sense! Hope so.

Charlene is finished with The Story of Beautiful Girl
This book was very good - a subject close to the author's heart, having a sister with disabilities. Wow- it brought back memories of when I was a kid and the adults talking about someone they knew who kept or sent a disabled child away. Rachel Simon did research to get the setting and characters right and she nailed it! My sister Pat recommended this book to me and I'm glad she did! Read it!

Good so far - I have read many Maeve Binchy books - enjoy the setting: Ireland and Europe and her character development is excellent. This book has not disappointed me in both areas.

Interesting background on this amazing woman. I only know a little about Condoleeza Rice and saw this book on display for National Women;s Day in my library. I browsed the front panel and found it interesting that this Black woman from the South who had ordinary parents has accomplished so much. I wanted to learn more....so far it is interesting and her writing is entertaining.

Charlene is finished with The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America's Great Migration
I just finished this book and it was very Good. This is a narrative nonfiction so combines a true story with the author narrating. Author follows 3 people thru their lives in the segregated South and their Migration north to cities where they hoped to find freedom and Peace. This book was long but well worth it, to learn details of our history and faces and actual people who lived it.

On the radio today (WGBH) the Chancellor of a California University reminded his university staff that students have the right to non-violent protest on campus. This is very interesting as I read all about the college protests and how they were handled (badly) in the sixties! Hopefully we have learned from the past!!!

Good book. Well as good as a book can be on the Vietnam War...right?! Graphic sad death and those surviving seem worse off somehow. Caputo writes well - excellent descriptions of the landscape and good analogies used. He shares his experiences and it had to take a lot of courage to write about this. I will have to write a book review for my course work.

Wow this is difficult and riveting and sad. Such misunderstanding that leads to war and political jockeying and fear - the biggest reason we went to war. Fear of the spread of Communism. Very sad for the soldiers who fought.

Amazing to re-read our history from the perspective of an adult. Remembering bits and pieces from the sixties when I was a kid and saw reports on TV when my parents watched the news each night. Or when we had aunts and uncles over and the adults had conversations about the war or the riots. And what was going to happen next in our country? Very interesting to read the details now.

This is described as a compact account of the sixties and this is very true! For the history course I'm taking this book is excellent. It tracks the events going on in the U.S. and I'm the world. It is easy to follow and them reference later. Will finish next week.

Assigned reading for my US history course. Good so far- subject is interesting - civil rights student organization and how it formed, their struggles and their influence as part of the movement. The details are a little tedious and make for a slow read at times.
