I don't really like reading about violent societies with violently enforced gender roles. It's a bit heavy handed here, too. Other parts of the world building are more interesting to me.

I didn't do very well at reading the Hugo nominees this year, but I thought I would try to give them at least a look before I submit my ballot. This is really not my thing so far. I'm skimming along hoping that I can get a taste of the experience that several reviewers have described.

I'm actually really enjoying this one. Plum is a great viewpoint character - she wants things, and she does things, and she loves magic and Brakebills with a clarity that I never got from the characters in the first two books. By age 30 Book Quentin seems to have finally gotten some maturity.

The show is really its own version of everything...

Because Darlington and the late(??) dean were introduced in the same paragraph on page 3, I spent the next thirty odd pages believing them to be the same person. Turns out they are not!

I found this among the Lambda Literary donations at LGBT BtP, and borrowed it. Because of it's provenance, I was expecting it to be a jewel and tafetta encrusted story of a prima donna seducing all of the ladies. I am beginning to suspect my hunch was absolutely incorrect.

It's a very talky book.
