I love Joan Crawford and of course I’ve seen the film. There’s never a reason to abuse children, so to see her in this light is a bit much. Her alcoholism is coming to the surface and revealing her humanity.

I’ve gotten over my disdain for audio books. If I am going to live and read, especially the gritty books on top of my studies, I’ve realized I have to dive from the top board.

I’m listening to Melanie and Me by Stephanie Winston Wolkoff. She sets a messy table to start, and I’m here for it. Chapter 1 down.

Kardaras argues the overuse of digital media creates a sociogenic phenomenon that produces maladaptive behaviors. His background in psychology provides interesting context to support his claim.

Bush uses diagrams and language common in the CBT and NLP circles to discuss “motivated bias” and “methods for motivational debiasing”. It is not new information but packaged as a techs path to the Easter way using “approved Western” empirical language. Still some of the concepts are stated but lack concrete anecdotal examples.

Ch 14 Research is inevitable even with the rule, write what you know.” It should enhance the story not become it.

Ch 15 Are writer’s groups and classes necessary? It depends. Reading and writing more a the best ways to improve your craft. Writer’s groups are nice, but they don’t take the place of the work.

Dubois provides statistics that appear solid for the time period. He analyzes them objectively, never veering to opinions that chastise economically challenged African Americans for their circumstance nor does he celebrate those who assimilated.

He notes multiple reasons to explain the progression for some and lack of for others.

The book opens with Conrad’s obsession, and I’m finding it difficult not to ponder his questions about Wolf too! The imagery is detailed and when putting the book down, I have to step into my reality and out of Baldwin’s picturesque setting.

Young’s story makes me think about how we approach depression concerning teens. How should we approach grief, heartache, and emotions in general? It seems we’ve selected a framework for something without a standard. Hmmm…

OSHO was well ahead of his time. In chapter 5 he explores duality. When cannot have happiness without sadness, life without death, heaven without hell. Battling against one, leads to constant strife. Accepting duality as a natural part of life is the key to contentment.

I’m loving learning curse words in French. Ok, there is much more to Mohr’s well researched text than foreign obscenities, but it’s one of the most exciting parts for me.

Mohr’s introduction is succinct and describes her purpose and interest in such a taboo topic. If you find yourself reading it, you are probably among the group of us who just love language—the good and the nasty!

We don't get to choose when we are hospitable—that bites because when we are clear-headed, we never get the chance to show our “real” hospitable side. Here we learn, the right time to be of service to someone is everytime. This one will take a bit of work!

Wow! I didn’t want to be a disciple. I felt like everyone elevated him for some benign reason. The man was wise and his ability to interweave Eastern and Western theological ideas to arrive at a coherent philosophy of life is masterful.

The present is the eternity. However, we create eternal hells by living in the past and we imagine heavens through nonexistent futures. Live now, embrace intuition, do you.

Traditional medicine can continue to abandon this Eastern system of physical psychological, and spiritual insight into our human experiences, but it wojld bd a shame. Chakras are thousands of years old and have managed to make it into a digital text in the millennium. Dale's ability to provide bite sized samples during our long journey is just right.

Humility is not getting in a corner and allowing others to walk all over us. It’s about knowing who we are and our role in society. Ultimately, we have to walk in our truth. That truth may call for assertiveness in an uncomfortable situation or restraint. Either situation is an example of humility.

The information is clear and concise. However, there are few supports to understand why the suggestions yield desired results. With so much science out there, some of this could have case studies as support. I’ll continue to read. However, the lack of evidence to support the claims makes it difficult to take the book serious enough to recommend to someone else.

We’ve confined ourselves by the constructs of the world. To be free, we must let go and embrace our inner child. Become one within ourselves, wishing the world. There is no loneliness in being alone. However, there is loneliness in a crowd of individuals who search for their soul on the outside.

Okholm reminds us obedience is a partnership instead of a hierarchy. It’s for our benefit; to grow; to learn; and to serve. As we seek out “right living,” we can’t go at it alone. Everyone’s actions whether desired or undesired contribute to our outcomes as the person we long to craft and become.
