Well so far I hate Tem more than ever and this “plot” makes no damn sense.

Every few chapters I ask “wtf is this story??” and then I keep reading

There is too much sex in this book. That is a difficult threshold to reach for me. It’s getting in the way of the pace of a fairly interesting plot. It’s not even bad sex, it’s just too many pages of it.

Also the final line of chapter 20 made me go “wtf is this book??” 😂

This book is painfully boring.

This story is fantastic

I know there’s a good story in here but it reads like it was written by an emo high school junior who just discovered Bret Easton Ellis and the thesaurus. Every sentence is an attempt at poetry. I love poetry, but I shouldn’t have to read each page twice to understand what’s happening. It’s like eating well-seasoned, gristly meat. The flavor is nice but, lord, it takes forever to chew.

Chapter 50 was a nonstop wave of cringe. Karaoke punishment. Cringe. Puck bunnies. Cringe. (Can we stop reducing women who like activities and are attractive any kind of bunnies?) Tess trying to get Ryan a date. Cringe. Tess crying(again) in the bar. Cringe. Caleb’s cheesy go home speech. Cringe. I’m so sad that I’m not enjoying this as much as Pucking Around, but I will make it through. …I hope.

We won’t even dig into to issues of her black father being with a woman who dislikes her child’s non-white features in the first place. Also this hockey book sure could use some more hockey in it.

Where are the black women in this biracial girl’s life? Does she not have a granny? Aunts? Cousins? Any POC other than her father and brother to teach her to embrace her non-white features. All we’ve seen so far is her anti-black mother. It made me have to look up the author and now I get it. Bi-racial women are not just white women with curly hair and weight insecurities. It’s frustrating.
