Keyara Jackson is 40% done with Sworn to the Shadow God (Aspect and Anchor #2)
Low-key the female protagonist is a bit insufferable. I think she flips back and forth a lot. She starts off by saying Death is just a guy with a bad job and is trying to make excuses for this man she doesn't know. Then she does want him to use his powers but also doesn't want to die, and I'm like I can understand relieving the brother from the ship but EVERYONE. While adrift and fighting for your life?

This is about the halfway point and honestly while I think the aspects of mental health are nice I don't feel that much is really happening. I think that unfortunately Elise ONLY character trait is her empathy. Which I think doesn't help because she doesn't know what to do unlike the war god that actively wanted to hunt down people we're just meandering around the villages. Endlessly..

I am bored and man does this story not flow the best. It's just so hard to feel immersed into the story. Everytime I stop or put the book down I'm less and less eager to pick it up.

This book is just okay, it's not MIND blowing or super spicy or a bunch of other things that's being thrown around with this book. I was expecting GROUNDBREAKING or at the very least to be moved. Her writing style is very distracting. It's so heavy handed.

This book has so much exposition dumping, and cliche phrases like "shook my head to clear my thoughts" or the "something jolting from a memory" these are not necessarily bad on their own but it's a lot to digest in the beginning of a book. I would highly recommend just re reading the previous novel before picking this up. There's a lot of intricate details for The Order / Merlin side of things.

I'm loving and kind of not loving this book so far. I'm almost HALF way in and we haven't even began the quest. I think we could have done without knowing the doctor being a fate and that whole event. I'm excited but also like c'mon on let's go we have a MONTH to get this woman back.

This started off strong but it's becoming a bit disappointing. The first act of the book I was enthralled and expecting for the journey to begin. I was swiftly disappointed by the tone change and the way that it became very insta lovey. The adventure just comes to a complete halt. Becoming a ton of information dumping happens.

I'm a little upset that the main POV is between Grey and the sister from the rival kingdom. I hate that we skipped over the prince and Harper. This story feels like a reverse romance novel trope. A ton of miscommunication and a break-up. I hate that Grey just left his oath and kingdom to be a stable hand. Wren is a bit disappointing.

I can't with this book, it wouldn't be so bad if the writer didn't act like I was a child. Like EVERYTHING is explained and told instead of shown. It just makes everything so flat and robotic in how they think and talk.

The book is good only fault is probably that the pacing can get a bit sluggish. It's not as quick paced as I would like for it to be. Some of the characters fall to the waste side for the suspects. There's intrigue but not a lot of stakes or tension for me.

Can I just say this hurts me. Like I really, really wanted to enjoy this book. And I'm committed to finishing it but it would be a miracle for it to rise above 2 stars. This just wasn't an enjoyable read. Like it's sluggish and so much of it just exposition. Characters could he edited down, and axed out. I feel like Bree herself is so empty of a character, and bland. Her personality is just being black&wokish.

I'm over halfway through this book, and while the beginning was interesting it feels as if the book is now at boring stand still and honestly we need more going on. Damn near dread the female protagonist pov because it really drags the book.

I'm really struggling to get through this book. It is so sluggish and the author often gets in her own way. So much of this book is telling, and over worked prose. Like the book wants to be the kind of thing you throw quotes from offhandedly. I think at it's core the story is interesting however the execution is terrible. Mare as a protagonists is too much. Her thoughts often ramble and are the same thing over and ov

This book is kind of a let down. I hate to say it but its such an unenjoyable experience. The protagonist, is kind of an asshole, to everyone. The magic and the world is kind of sloppily thrown together. Granted I usually have this problem with urban fantasy but this is on a other level.

I'm disappointed actually. This had a pretty good start but too much of the book is just meandering. Why do we need so much time with her as the goose girl?? It's just boring after a while. It felt like such a waste and I hate how she was so complacent she was. She gave away her stand in mother's necklace like it was nothing

I'm about 2 thirds into this book and honestly it's charming and I like a lot of these moments. It reads very much so like an origin story. The world is full and pretty vibrant. I'm okay with not knowing every appointed member of the council. However this book suffers a lot of the drawbacks from origin stories. Majority of this book feels like exposition and you're just waiting for the adventure to start

I'm not sure how I feel about this story so far. I don't dislike the romance, I think the stakes are high but something just feels missing. I think the balance feels off. The action is fleeting and maybe more is needed to add to the stakes. The villains are too absent.

Its taking a bit long to get back to the start of the book. Which at this point you could have just ommit or moved till after. I didn't mind the flashback up to the point of her getting the job. Afterwards I would have liked it to gome
