Ugh - at a third of the way in, this already feels like a American business book: introduce a simple idea, then bury it under endless anecdotes to prove a point that didn’t need proving. The effect isn’t persuasive but patronizing—it brings me back to sitting through a sermon that keeps circling the same obvious point. No depth, just fillers, sitting through this itself is an act of discipline.

Nature writing at its finest, about a leveret and it's unexpected caregiver (the author).

Time has come to give this another go—I have kept this book laying around in plain sight to keep alive the aspiration of ever finishing it. Winter is coming, if not now, then when? So far it's mostly foundational theory, but I am looking forward to the essays on strategy in the previous and present century. Can't wait.

Got this book from one of the footnotes of Meadowlands - the reflections of a man who opted to be excused from an army post in favour of agriculture during World War 2 - consider me intrigued.
