This is so charming! It has wonderful vocabulary, a lovely setting in England, and a blossoming romance between two widows. It also addresses some pretty clear racism issues in a way that is polite and not so “in your face” as some other books try to do. I appreciate that these issues aren’t ignored, but that they also don’t interrupt the main story.

Just starting this, but already giggling.

I would 200% stay up super late to finish this, but it IS a school night. Blah. Tomorrow!

Finished! This was a really good one. It's #11 in the series, and I think there are like 28 of them or something. I will likely read all of them by the time I'm 100.... but I really enjoy this series!

About halfway through….. I read this YEARS ago, but reading it again now because my Advanced Lit class is reading it. They are really struggling with the language, but we’re getting there!

Holy crap! This was CRAZY. Like it took some GREAT twists and turns and by the end, I was TOTALLY invested in Harry and Margit and their story. What a roller coaster!!!! Highly recommend.

This definitely won’t be the last Douglas Kennedy book I read! Good stuff!

Finished. I devoured this book and will legit read anything and everything Ruta Sepetys ever writes.

I will literally read anything this woman writes. Fantastic. I would also consider teaching this. Or part of it. This is communism in the 80s. The 1980s. Not lifetimes ago.

Good day for a book…. But I have to admit that this isn’t my fave Reacher…. Here’s hoping for a strong second half!

Legit JUST started this, but it’s already taken off quickly! Whoo hoo!

I finally finished this today and now look forward to teaching it.... it's definitely fodder for a LOT of discussion, which I hope to do fairly and openly, despite the fact that the book for me wasn't a home run. It generalized both blacks and whites too generally, making it seem as though Coates believes that "all blacks" are burdened by their past and "all whites" are the bad guys who propagate this burden....

This is gonna be tough to teach for a myriad of reasons, predominantly that I don’t feel qualified to talk about these issues as a white woman, but I’ll come up with something.

Finished! This was a good one, but I'm not surprised. I purposely started this book because I needed something that I knew I would enjoy.

I'm enjoying this one immensely. Good characters and a setting I know all too well. It's so cool to read about Willie's, Pier 290, Chuck's, and all the other local spots in a fun summer novel. :-)
