"Time is a machine: it will convert your pain into experience. The individual events of your life will be transmuted into another substance called memory and in the mechanism something will be lost and you will never be able to reverse it, you will never again have the original moment back in its uncategorized preprocessed state. It will force you to move on and you will not have a choice in the matter."

If this universe isn't zoned for space opera, how do they have a galactic savior monomyth?

"Maybe this thing hates where it is. Where it's been for a millennia. Not dead, but sure as shit not alive either, and it can't get out. Maybe he's desperate. Maybe you got something he wants, and the only way to get it is if you willingly give it up. So maybe he's going to have to trick you."

I'm going to be honest, I would also fall into the "I don't want to prove my judgemental family right." trap when it comes to haunted houses. If I was getting dogged on for purchasing a house that "wasn't a good investment" and then it turned out to be haunted I would also stick it out.

The more I read about the circumstances surrounding the Reformation and the immediate results the more I think about how similar our current circumstances are. The internet has made long distance communication possible on an unprecedented scale, AI is causing panic and spreading a general sense of unreality, the rural vs urban rivalry is quite literally The Same...

I feel so bad for Juliana but I hope she makes it out of this. I also hope that Frank makes it, but that feels. Real Doubtful.

PKD really knows how to build/maintain tension... Juliana, in a car with a man who may or may not be violent, can't help laughing at his fascist philosophy.

Dick's ability to portray racist characters... Childan saying something super racist but only being able to grasp that his clients are withdrawing from him and not why. And he immediately assumes they can't grasp his point because they aren't white! No, buddy, they heard you. They HEARD you.

This is why I prefer older protagonists. I do enjoy some YA, and I Definitely enjoyed it when I was a young adult, but the way that Agatha references her younger fantasies of her parents showing up to whisk her away "and tell her she was a princess or some other squirmingly embarrassing fantasy." and compares it to the reality of actually BEING the lost heir of a famous noble family...

So much "mad" science makes perfect sense. He didn't have a microscope powerful enough to see dust mites, so he built a machine to make them large enough to see with the naked eye. It's not his fault the mites are now the size of small elephants. He just over shot it a little.

"I'm not trying to capture light. I'm listening for darkness / shutting like an eye." <- I really like this! It gives the sense that idk. When light enters your eye to convey information and the eyelid blinks down the light is "captured" but the speaker doesn't want to do that, it's a side effect of darkness falling. Also, what sound does darkness make? I feel it would be a hushing, but like wind through grass.

"Evidently Solaris decided that Ancar’s a snake, old feuds are not worth dying over, and that if the two female rulers of the lands facing his don’t drop their differences and decide we’re all girls together, Ancar is eventually going to have both for lunch.” - What a way to describe the cessation of a religious conflict that's lasted multiple centuries.
