i was not aware until after the first 2 chapters in that parker is filipino, and the small cultural details and self-perceptions of being a writer in the book industry hits right on the dot

i think this had a good concept, but the fact that benton became president because he did it all to impress a girl really turned me off. i was hoping some (YA-appropriate) layered political and social commentary.

i hold off on this book for months, hoping that there'll come the urgency for a dual-POV romance. but the seasonality of the story isn't helping me want to go back. someone convince me to jump back on it!

yeah this is way too much for me

i am not gonna pretend the author normalized is***** food 😐

still gagged that i'm reading this far in advance

reading a manuscript for a blurb was not on my 2026 bingo card

i love you, scott and kip, but the insta-love and repetition of the matter isn't enough to keep going

my tv is on, don't interrupt me

his writing doesn't do it for me, i'm sorry. this is my second attempt in reading his books and i personally don't think the distant, simplistic writing style carries any meaning to me, despite touching on queerness and strained mother-son relationships.

DNF bc i'm having a hard time following with the plot mixed with the purple prose that feels unedited

DNF—couldn't get into the writing style nor was the story interesting to me

i can read books that draws parallels to our reality but maybe it's not the best time to continue on, given the current climate

cell phones on silent, shut your mouths. the show's about to begin

putting this down only bc i couldn't finish the audiobook on libby in time before it expired

DNF-ing

will revisit, and annotate the next time

"At twenty-three, I loved horny-for-nothing Joan Didion as much as the next bitch, but I'm thirty-five now and it's time to believe in something."

me at twenty-three: 👁️👄👁️

in honor of the brat remix finally out, i made a list called dnf-and-i-liked-it-but-still-dnf

i can conclude this is a book for aquarius, but catered to teens.

only four chapters in and i'm struggling so much on reading peter's chapters. these staccato sentences is making it difficult to understand what's going on

sadly DNFing this because even tho i sympathize with the characters' circumstance amid the environmental devastation and unjust economic power, it is a slow pace read that fall into limited points of view in long chapters, which becomes interesting at first but gets boring the more you continue the story.

gonna pausing on this read

soft DNF

let the games begin

pg 296 to here was close to perfection. i'm getting feeded oluk x rinar content 🥹

such amazing writing like the character building?? the queernormative world building??? probably the best I encountered this year
