This is a biography for poetry lovers. Middlebrook did done her homework well when writing this book; going over craft and line structure. Including the lives of other poets that Sexton tangled herself with at the time. I had no idea Sexton and Plath were so close. Nor that Adrienne Rich was also close contemporary at the time. Gosh, I would have loved to have been a guest at one of these poetry parties then.

“My entire role in the ceremony was to utter eleven words. Matthew was charged with fifteen…informed the priest that we would then repeat our vows, in English...This brought the total number of words necessary…to fifty two” (I cut the sentences down)

Ughhh! I can’t stand the writing in the book but I keep reading it. It is totally insufferable. The author is so wordy that it is actually exhausting.

Despite what others say of this book. I am throughly enjoying it. I watched the AMC series first and then became interested in the books. I am enjoying the details included that the show had to cut. Especially, the letter Diana’s mother left for her to be delivered by Diana’s haunted childhood home. It was beautifully written. I connected to it as a mother. I also love the different interpretations of vampires.

Was not aware of the authors rather controversial life but she writes incredibly well. Only finished the first chapter and I already have several passages underlined. I can tell already that I am going to love this book.

Zeus was a total asshole.
