I finished KW’s 1st novel yesterday. Enjoyed it as I like time-travel and reading about the Civil War as sad in loss of life of Americans it had. 4 stars.

I have noticed similarities between the UK & the US. One of Paul’s old friends constantly complains about how the UK “is going to the dogs.” This friend mentions “the Welfare State”, immigrants, and unemployment, and how “prisons = holiday camps.” He is prejudiced about all of these. There are some in the US who would agree with him. Correction: many not some!
