I love a story that combines fairytales and the real world. Add a little history and I’m sold.

Ah! I finally got that both of our leads are on the spectrum. Or at the very least Thorn.

I got to say, despite my misgivings at the courtly setting, I find the adventure oddly charming. The magic system seems interesting and the world is one I wish to explore. The main character has even started to grow on me. I’m seeing her now as a Catherine the Great type and look forward to what happens next.

Picked up on a whim because I like floating islands and this one caught my eye. Beyond that, the book is interesting, written in the voice of an educated girl of means which reminds me of something written in the 19th century, such as Pride and Prejudice.

Interesting read. I’m certainly finding a lot of my preconceptions about samurai and Ninja being challenged, though, being neither an expert on the subject nor a speaker of Japanese, I can’t say what is truth or speculation, considering this is written by and for a western audience. Regardless, it does help paint a picture of warriors who seems more realistic then the ones depicted in films and anime.

“You want to be part of the story, and not an observer!” Yes! Oh my god yes. It’s like she is talking to the reader! Anything to end this boring style of writing. Oh my god do I find this story so boring. And you know what the worst part is? It is clear the writer put so much effort. That they are clearly well read and an excellent writer.

It’s been a while since I’ve read a book and knew just from the first few chapters it would be 5 stars.

Sara the Angel, “Man, I love talking about the development we just had with the main character! Sure wish we could have time to actually show it, but whatever get this plot going and this story done! Also I might suddenly have feeling for him because the author says I should!”

Soooooo I think I would like this book better if I understood the character’s desires. Main character seems to have very little motivation in what he does beyond running away and following others.

I’m once again reminded that the author has a thing for snarky male protagonist. At least this one isn’t quite as bad as her first.

Well I like the world, the characters are passable. But I’m losing interests as I go through the book. Nothing really pops out. Just the world. Maybe I’m being a little harsh.

Everything in this book is quick. The action and the relationships.
