I get it now... 70% of the first book should have been the prequel to the trilogy... The last 30% of book 1 should have been the beginning of the series and blended into this book to make "book 1" really good... The prequel is just bleh

20ish percent in and this already feels like it is going to be the worst Sanderson novel yet, which so far hasn't happened a lot with me. But this... This stinks, bad. It may be the co-writer, but having read everything by Sanderson... I feel a lot of it is Sanderson, with the co-writer just adding his little bit to it. Like Brandon wrote 70%, then the other guy just filled in his bits... It's not going well.
