Bored. Really bored. Tempted to set it side to finish at some other time... to be fair, it may be suffering because I'm reading the much more interesting Black Feathers at the same time.

Despite feeling kind of "meh" about the 1st book in this series, I have to say I'm liking this one quite a bit more. Not sure if it's the style, the story, or just me... or all of the above. Whichever it is, it's working for me.

It's a rare book that works itself into my head enough to enter my dreams. Last night, this one did...unfortunately! There was a 3am hour of me lying in bed, unable to sleep, because every noise was surely something coming to get me. Hey, I live in the middle of the woods, don't judge me! (Luckily I kind of like that creeped-out feeling.)

Despite the fact that not a whole lot happens in the first 100 pages, I'm thoroughly engrossed in this. Kind of regretting buying it in e-book form, as it's one that I'm going to want to share. Things are just starting to get creepy, and if the remaining half of it is as good as the first, I'm already regretting that it has to come to an end...even though you're told the ending(?) in the opening. Good stuff.

When I first read them, I was taken by the "strong female characters." This time, they're coming across as vapid and subservient. Maybe that changes as the series progresses.

Couldn't do it. Couldn't care enough to trudge through the last few-hundred pages. I'll finish the series when it's finished.

I'd promised myself I'd finish the three other books I already had going before picking up something new....and then saw this in the store. Resolution fail, and happy for it.

I'm seriously tempted to set this aside and be done with it. I feel like I'm having to trudge through it, and when I think about how it may take YEARS for the next book-and then YEARS for the next book-and then YEARS for the final book (assuming Martin doesn't pull a Jordan)...well, I just lose interest in the series.

While I'm enjoying the book, I can't say that I'll pick up the following ones.

I give up. I feel weird giving up with less than 100 pages to go, but...I just don't have any interest in how it finishes, and I refuse to be that "I started it, I have to finish it" person...again. Sad, since I like so much of Mievilles work, but he really is hit-and-miss.

After a slow start (I got distracted by The Hunger Games and the boyfriend snagged Kraken up) I'm finally getting into the swing of Kraken. Like a Lot of Mieville's books, it sometimes takes a bit for me to get into them, but it usually pays off!

Easily becoming one of my new favorite books. To be honest, I have to stop every now and then and just think about what all is happening, the not-so-subtle commentary that is going on. Brilliant.

As an "ex-communard" I'm always fascinated to hear about others experiences in those realms...however, the author's style leaves something to be desired. Moments of beautiful writing, followed by the exact opposite.

Finally picking up steam...or maybe it's that I can actually sit down and enjoy it, not sure which.

I seriously hope this book gets better. While The Strain caught me up and I plowed through it, this one is...meh. Every now and then it's interesting, the rest of the time I feel like I'm reading a storyboard for the sure-to-come movie.

We'll see how this goes. Like some of the other reviewers here, I could easily see myself getting annoyed by the author.
