The dry humor in this is very funny. I laughed out loud.

The heroine reads as being demisexual and possibly neurodivergent coded and I relate to her so much

This is like the surrealist horror of Junji Ito, the ornate writing of Tanith Lee, and the meanderingly horrific dark academia setting of Naomi Novik's Deadly Education. I see a lot of people complaining about the writing style but I am really enjoying myself. Their vocabulary is so impressive-- I keep jotting down words I don't know so I can look them up later.

I'm actually surprised that this is shelved as dark romance. It is not (so far?). The hero is morally grey at most and this has the gritty romantasy elements of early- mid-2000s fantasy romance books like Poison Study. I'm really enjoying the lush gothic castle setting but it's not ~dark romance~.
