Wow, been catch up in the magical world of LOBIZONA. A magical Latinx world filled with brujas, werewolves in a supernatural academy in the middle of the Everglades. LOVING.

Had a hard time getting into. The chemistry so-far feels forced, though I'm intrigued to continue reading.

Love the descriptions of Milan during 1943. What I'm having issues with though is lots of telling throughout. There's also over the top stereotypical depictions of Italians that made me cringe. Still, love that a novel is set during the 'Forgotten War' in Italy. Will continue reading.

Now book is picking up with descriptions of smuggling Italian Jews out of Italy. I'm riveted with the story.

Omg, totally loving right now. The scenes of white fighters targeting black soldiers over in France during WWI, I totally believe. My own Dad's uncle, who served in the North Africa campaign in WWII shared stories that were kind of similar.

Berry's writing is amazing. I couldn't put this book down.

Love the premise of this novel. The beginning though is a little slow. Still the idea of Aphrodite sharing a tale of love with people from
WWI and WWII has my interest!

Love the snappy dialogue and realism of high school. Plus, the whole 'why-can't-girls-just-have-fun?' It reminds me kind of when I made my own list in college to go out with all the guys in my one area. My roommates thought I was 'easy'.

Really enjoying this tale of a tween who goes on a quest to find a missing ring of Frida Kahlo's. The backstory of the famous Mexican artist is woven throughout in dialogue.

Omg, this book is so far frickin' good. I haven't been able to put it down. Tension, suspense, and zombies. Think True Grit meets The Walking Dead.

Kim Baccellia is on page 210 of 352 of Crossing the Line: A YA Romance of Star-Crossed Love, Class Divide, and Dangerous Sparks
I really love Elkeles last books, but have to admit a tad bit disappointed in her latest. The italic Spanish throughout the novel is very distracting from an otherwise at times engaging love story. Also the Spanish and Mexican backdrop is the stereotypical view of the country. But that's just my opinion right now.

Love the scenes in Paris. Having issues through with some of the descriptions of someone who deals with being on the spectrum. Maybe because I have a son who has sensory impairment issues, some of the descriptions in this book felt too forced. Also the social worker scene felt contrived.

Kim Baccellia is on page 188 of 256 of Us, in Progress: Short Stories About Young Latinos
At first I was worried that these stories would only show one side of the Latino experience. Then I read 'Guera' and was hooked. I could totally relate with this character as I'm fair-skinned and often people don't think I understand Spanish because no way I could have Mexican culture as I'm 'white'. Little do they know my grandfather was half-Mexican.
