"Gauge also can vary with the time of day you’re knitting, how long you’ve been knitting at a stretch, and what you’re thinking about. The tension you put on the yarn traveling around the needle contributes to stitch size, so being tired or tense can affect the flow of your yarn and stitch size." How interesting.

"Lightly twisted plied and single-ply yarns are closer to their roving (unspun) state and, though sturdy enough when knitted up, can pull apart into strands if they’re over-handled. They also can be slightly uneven, have more loft and softness, and be warmer than their twisted sisters." Love this passage. Like when you get the reference.

My impression of Rebecca is that she is nothing more than a spoiled rich girl, who seems to be far too interested in men, especially her male cousins. I find this weird, and don't understand why there couldn't have been a family friend as her love interest. Why the incest? What was the author thinking? Also, why does she have an English accent? She grew up in India. Clearly, no research was done.

First impressions: It appears as if the love interest in this book are related. They are distant cousins. Well, this isn't much different from Flowers in the Attic by V.C Andrews, where brother and sister slept together. I can see why some people are turned off by this book. However, I will continue reading to say that I read it, because I own this book and want to knock it off the TBR list.

"Studies from around the world show that recovery from war—from any
trauma—is heavily influenced by the society one belongs to, and there are
societies that make that process relatively easy. Modern society does not seem to be one of them."

"The positive effects of war on mental health were first noticed by the great sociologist Emile Durkheim, who found that when European countries went to war, suicide rates dropped."

“When people are actively engaged in a cause their lives have more
purpose… with a resulting improvement in mental health,” Lyons wrote in the Journal of Psychosomatic Research in 1979.
