I like the descriptions better, the house and the village come to life more. Jenny is still nothing to write home about and Crane seems to be a complete pushover to his too-much-over-the-top-ugly boss who, according to Annie’s impression, is acting a role of a boss cop.

respect to Elly Griffiths for all the different stories, voices, and themes. She could do a regular novel if she wanted to based on the Turning Traitor story, it is excellent. But I am happy with what she is doing now. I can see myself getting into Harbinder Kaur series based on the story about her first day on the job (although Ruth and Nelson are hella better!). Christmas tree is the best XMas vibes story.

So far I read three stories — one about Ruth, Nelson, Cathbad and Kate solving a mystery of disappearing cats, one about a different forensic archaeologist who isn’t too quick on sending for the coroner, and about a boy named Dylan who hates books. Those are all good stories. Of course I am reading them for updates on Ruth’s company but Elly Griffiths is doing a great job

Write romances like a pro, the first kiss happens exactly at a half!

I am enjoying it. It is a delightful quick read. Is she really haunted by mistake? Or is she supposed to learn to be more assertive? Is she really going to help him move on? And what does it mean to move on? Especially what kind of un-haunting and moving on can we expect in a Christmas romance? Will he become her guardian angel? And main ?: will I want to re-read it coming Christmas?

It’s funny that I am currently reading two Afterlife stories at the same time. Bureaucracy in the Afterlife.

Is “we got a baby together before we even fucked” a trope??
I do like it but I don’t know how I will feel in the end. It’s not big

I like it. I see how it is her first book and how she might or might not become a better writer in the future. She needs to show more than tell (“a sculpture like she never seen before”) and work on her descriptions but Hell’s rules and structures and people are wonderful. Romance is great, I realize I am sus of enemies to lovers but I love horny friends to lovers. Hopeful and sweet.

It is better without descriptions. It is simple but some of the best joys are the simple ones. It is such a sweet joy to feel horny from someone’s presence and be reciprocated. That makes me happy and that makes me sad as well.

So far I am only not fond of descriptions of places, they do not work for me. They are designed for someone to imagine the place and I am not the person for whom this works. I like evocative descriptions of spaces, not literal.

I want to like this book because the edition is so beautiful

I like the glimpses into Laura, it started happening since the book where Tim gets killed I think but I can already see wanting to re-read the whole set for getting to know the girls a little more

I don’t know how I feel about Ruth applying for Phil’s position. She will be Head of Archaeology but it is a small dept and if Phil was not able to afford to replace her what exactly will she be heading? Of course that’s a good thing if she comes back, plot wise, but I wonder still how sustainable that is.
I think Kate might be in danger in this book again

I find the situation with Frank to be quite believable but sure as hell pls don’t make him a murderer, in this particular case it would be an incredible dick move on author’s part
