Honestly, this is SO weird and confusing, it might work well as an audiobook. Even trying very hard, some stuff is impossible to make sense of; surrendering to the phantasmagoria and letting the weird wash over you could be the way.

Don't really know why I waited so long to start this after how excellent The Player of Games was. Banks is an excellent writer- hits the balance point of very well crafted sentences and intensely readable perfectly.

"Binding is a sacred thing, and you must absolutely make sure you get consent." "How do we get consent?" "Oh, you just ask once. Then rip those memories out!"

The blurb calling this a "memoir" feels like a misnomer. Memoir implies some sort of desire to communicate your story to someone else; this does not feel like Weer attempting to tell us something, he's simply talking and we're along for the ride.
