So far, i’ve been reading while thinking, “I want to share this! To whom can I give a copy of this remarkable book?” But I just realized, this book was created just for me.

The audible version of Big Magic was recommended to me by a friend, and I agree. Gilbert's writing didn't keep me interested in Eat, Pray, Love; however, the upbeat, pep-talk style of this audio version (read by the author) has made my recent walks on the track more enjoyable. Food for thought, not great literature.

I’m not a quitter, but the quick dialogue and smart description do not make up for the fact that I dislike the main character and don’t care to join his journey. I will leave this one to others.

This is my favorite translation. I’m relishing the classic imagery and narrative as I go through the year with other books, too

This is an anthology of medium and long non-fiction defined as literary journalism. I am drawn to characters more than scientific inquiry, irony more than extended analysis. Even when an author (Kramer) adds references to Steinbeck and anecdotes about his Russian ancestors, it does not rival Dr. Zhivago for my reading tastes. I wanted to learn more about the genre and to observe the writing style.

I am already enamored with this novel. The characterization, syntax, dialogue--all are deftly woven into a restrained, thoughtful narrative. The thematic foundation--poverty, family, alienation, to start--is profoundly moving. The description of Lucy's loneliness during childhood--told from her unassuming perspective--rivals that of Dick Gregory's more defensive description in his narrative essay, "Shame."

I'm afraid that this journey is too depressing for me. I am ending my relationship with this book. Too dysphoric.

This is an entertaining book...good summer read. A mix of The Big Chill, Forest Gump, & Law & Order-SVU!
