woman can really make me cry over a loon

i'm having a great time w this one! fast easy read, very entertaining, subtly feminist in a way I feel I should have but did not expect.

despite what my slow progress would imply, I am very much enjoying this. I also swear I read other authors than T. Kingfisher, I requested them into the library system months ago and they were so backed up w their ordering, they of course all came at once, nearly 5 months after some of their publishing dates rip...

"I embrace the next morning with all the enthusiasm as a goat entering Jurassic Park." GIRL WHAT??

"My insecurity returns like a villain in a sequel. The same but worse." yeah idk man.

it's amazing how far i've made it into this book and the plot is still "my long term bf dumped me and i'm so sad and i had to move to this cute town in the middle of nowhere and this beautiful woman (not in a gay way) has adopted me but all the town fears her and she definitely controls dark forces and maybe i can now too" and like. that may be a long run on sentence but plot-wise it is pretty unsubstantial.

ok we are finally in the mood to continue this. wish me luck.

honestly very fun so far

got stuck in a rut w my last book so we are pivoting and reading something short & the newest in a series I already know I enjoy to hopefully respark my enthusiasm.

it's been so long since I requested this book into the library, I'd forgotten the premise. thrilled to be dealing w a cursed mine !! few things are as horrifying as the claustrophobia of being deep underground

I can't decide if I like this writing or not

yeahhhh until my migraines chill the hell out, I think I just have to accept that my reading will be taking a hit because I am genuinely amazed I got even this much reading in. sorrows

finally actually successfully reading w out instant migraines, everyone in the crowd please cheer. I will say, I really enjoy our MC but for being over 100 pages in, I feel like we only barely have scratched the surface of our story.

I keep starting this and quickly developing a migraine. god does not want me to read this. it's good tho

I am aiming to finish this tonight but dang am I a slow reader for someone who reads this much so wish me luck !!!!

just watched the utterly ridiculous and spectacular movie "Deep Rising" like a week ago and I feel like it somehow spoiled this completely unrelated book for me because so far their storylines are following the same beats lmao I am enjoying it thus far!

ok we are for real actually starting this book now, I swear it !!

really rooting for these friends who are only in the woods trying to find their missing friend/sister but like. things are not looking positive for them.

actually really enjoying our dual POVs, which is something I'm not usually sold on. also it's fun to laugh at the one "nice guy's" internally thought processes.

I WILL be finishing this today !!! I am determined and also, I just want my answers. already convinced one of my patrons to take it out ! I've enjoyed it immensely, regardless of how itll end

this was an excellent first pick for the spooky season because I'm thoroughly enjoying this to the degree that I don't want to put it down. and boy is the way everyone casually talks in this just off the key of normal in vaguely terrifying ways! "I'm working on it. I can make a deal." not just "I can deal" my dude? "make a deal" ?? who we making deals w guys ??
