I feel like a lot of groundwork is being laid, so the story is slow going so far... But I'm REALLY curious about whether I need to be drawing a map of this law firm's office spaces. I'm getting directions for damn near everyone's office... Southeast corner 39th floor, northeast corner 45th floor, along the north wall of the 40th floor near the bank of secretaries. Sheesh!

I feel like this is a British or Australian author writing about Americans. Several words and phrases are more British English than American English. Mum instead of mom, a trolley instead of a cart at the grocery store, a note instead of a dollar, etc. And just the general sentence structure...

Okay, so I'm intrigued and I wanna know what happens with them. The story is an interesting concept. But the writing is kinda driving me batshit... Too much TELLING going on.

I knew I'd read a book by here before. Just refreshed myself on what that one was about to reacquaint me with the author... Although I remember ultimately liking the other book, I do remember it was LONG and chock full of English history that sorta bored me... Now I'm slightly worried, but still hopeful... Here goes nothin'...

I'm SO OVER Annmarie and Nick thinking of their employees as 'the kids'. These are full grown adults. They're in their 20's. Nick & Annmarie are in their 30's. It's annoying and the excessive repetition is making my skin crawl!!!

There's a lot of 'moral to the story' going on, but not in a subtle way. In a totally annoying, wanna stab your eyeballs out kinda way...

Nick is 'the Building God' and Tim is a 'blonde Adonis'. In case you forget, don't worry, it's repeated just about every time try enter a 'scene' or are thought about...

She's 34. NOT a virgin, but she's only had 'a couple fumbling affairs in dark rooms.' She's never experienced oral sex. Giving or receiving. And she's never really seen a penis... Now he's fingered her and gone down on her without ever having an actual conversation with him...

Utter ridiculousness. Lots of eye rolling happening. No sense. No rhyme or reason to the story. The characters are flat and TOTALLY idiotic. Almost halfway through... Trying to suck it up and finish, but it's getting harder and harder with every paragraph... Annmarie is one of the absolute WORST romance heroines I've ever read...

Fantasy: she's laying on a bed with the satin sheets pulled up just over her breasts. Candles lit around the room. Ice bucket with wine bottle beside bed. Man standing at window, gazing out at the dark night, backlit by the moon and streetlights.... He's 'gloriously' naked and has a ramrod hard-on and then he looks over at her on the bed. Ummm.... OKAAAYYYY....

The 'heroine' is 34. Feeling her biological clock ticking. She made a conscious decision to forego love for a career as a fashion designer. She still seems to be barely making it... She fantasizes CONSTANTLY about 'Building God' (the hero)... Her fantasies are BEYOND cheesy...

The 'hero' in this one is a construction worker. Yeah, yeah... Hot construction worker... Blah, blah, blah... Is this some bad 80's movie??? A village people video??? He has hair in a ponytail (WTF is sexy about long hair on MEN???), he's WORKING shirtless in a pair of cutoff shorts bordering on indecently short (men's Daisy Dukes???), with tall, thick socks & steel toe boots. FUCKING. GAG. ME!!!

Ahhhh... John Corey... It's been far too long since we've been apart!!! I'm already laughing my ass off!!! I've decided John Corey just needs to be a real person... Science should get on that... ;)
