Pleasantly surprised that I'm not hating this. Romance and horror are the two genres I almost always avoid because I know there's no more than a 0,01% chance I will enjoy them. But this has enough of everything else to keep me invested.

Read them ages ago (or what feels like that, anyway), when I was in that weird non native speaker limbo where you get it but also you don't. It's hard to explain but it's like you get the general idea but everything else escapes you.

Anyway, the show is the best ASOIAF adaptation ever produced and it made me want to go back to ASOIAF for the millionth time. And I'm still not sleeping. Might as well fill the hours

Breezing through this but ngl it's because I'm barely registering all the technical stuff. I love that Weir did the research, and I much prefer books that take their lore and world building seriously. But surely there's a sweet spot between “shut up, it's magic” à la Harry Potter and info dumping calculus every few paragraphs? :( I'm sure this is hitting the spot for science nerds, but it's a bit tedious to read tbh

Book blurb should have been: “Kuang just really, REALLY needed to deal with her own feelings about academia and this is the result”.

So far, I like the idea itself and dislike the execution. Why do all romance books need to be this awkward is beyond me

I can't tell if I like it or not

I read Medusa's Sisters and thought Bear a tremendous author. These first pages are... not very good. I mean, she uses “could care less” and the editor didn't caught it which isn't very promising for the rest of the book.

Oh, that's a pleasant surprise! I didn't think this would be for me as I don't like his sci-fi series, but this is a solid read so far.

Alvarez does this cool yet weird thing where her tone is fast paced despite the plot being rather slow starting. It does mean I'm flying through this one
