Extremely well crafted, beautifully written (if you can call a lot of the gore writing beautiful), fascinatingly told. The audio production for this was excellent- one of the best I have listened to. I just can’t fully get into the horror of it all, but a great tale about America for sure.

I’m DNF-ing this one. Just not doing it for me, as the characters aren’t worth the slow nature of the story.

I am listening to this very intermittently & with very little recollection of what happened in book 1, & with a lot of smooth brain happening with regards to any lore stuff or political stuff happening here, so we’ll see how long this takes 😂

I’m DNF-ing this about a third of the way in. Interesting premise, but the writing does not live up it- mostly boring, unfortunately.

Technically I read 6 works of fiction since my last nonfiction, not quite following my 5:1 ratio. However, one of those novels was a reread for feminist book club, & the Agony & the Ecstasy might as well have just been a biography of Michelangelo. So I feel I am still keeping to the spirit of my resolution.

Today, on Michelangelo’s birthday, I read the part when he finished the David! & about his cranky feud with Leonardo Da Vinci! I love his cranky moodiness!

250 pages in, & Michelangelo still hasn’t sculpted anything really famous yet. But the description of his clandestine, middle-of-the-night cadaver dissections was fascinating. Also all the Medici stuff is giving me flashbacks to Da Vinci’s Demons, clearly the most authentic representation of Renaissance Florence ever created.

Well, I finished part 1, & a)Scorpius is my favorite, somehow. 2) I'm dying to know how they do spells, & invisibility cloaks, & polyjuice onstage Gamma) well shit, I suspect I'll be staying up late to finish this!

How could I refuse a book billed as "Walt Whitman & his 'boyfriend' solving mysteries & dealing with grave robbers in 1840s New York?"
