Oh what a struggle to stay with it. The prose is just…, well, too much hard work to get much joy from it. It just seems so overwhelmingly pretentious; but then I have to remember it a Very old book!!

The tension is biulding, and the plot is certainly thickening. The Partilals and the Humans are certainly not alone. Somebody has been wildly modifying DNA, and they're both scared!!! But time is quickly running out on multiple levels.

Within minutes of my starting to read this book, I was getting ideas of ditching it. It very quickly felt like it was a book for very young people, but on reflection, it just more of a very light read. However, after four, very short, chapters it developed a charm which encouraged me to stay with it, and finish it. By chaper eleven, it soon starts have a hint of preachy moralistic tone.

The book certainly held my attention from the off, starting with two Irish lads (friends) that embark upon a journey with one of them soon in love, getting a little too mushy until things get very grim and disaster strikes. Up to this point, the book has had me reaching for tissues a number times....

I casually checked this book out just to get an idea, whilst tweaking my reader app. From the very first paragraph, this book was increasingly difficult to put down. After about 3 hours I found I was approaching the completion of the first third of the book. As a predominately keen reader of period sagas, and some sci-fi, this is a refreshing break for me. A real no-nonsense start straight from the he off.
