This is an amazingly well researched book. The author had Michelangelo's letters, records and contracts translated to English. The level of detail is astounding. The reader must be prepared to deal with hundreds of named characters, many of whom have many-lettered Italian names. It can get quite confusing at times. Tough book to read. It’s a bit complicated at first. In the first novel, especially, it’s hard to figure out when the action is taking place. Once you get into the second novel, you can follow it much more easily. I’m glad I stuck with it. The last couple of novels in this tetralogy are excellent. Well worth the effort..

The book is good but hard to follow in places. The language is quite stilted, much more so than in Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility. I followed the chapters by reading the Mansfield Park summary on Schmoop.com. On several occasions, I was glad I did. There are references to “a living” and a few other things which are obsolete in today’s world. All in all, I enjoyed it very much.

This is excellent and as relevant today as in 2000, when it was written. Baseball is in more danger than ever, now, with the endless games, multiple pitching changes, far too many balls not being put in play, among many other issues. Costas offers some common sense solutions, presented in a very appealing book. I hope he writes an update with his thoughts on the problems in today’s game.

Excellent read. Very funny. I’m looking forward to reading the next tea in the trilogy.

Good book if you want an easy read that doesn’t make you think very hard. Very entertaining.
