We certainly should and must: as MacDonald says ‘All that is not God is death.’ The question is whether we should simply (a.) Bring Him in in the dedication of our work to Him, in the integrity, diligence, and humility with which we do it or also (b.) Make His professed and explicit service our job.

“Where could I have got it? By reason could I have arrived at knowing that I must love my neighbor and not oppress him? I was told that in my childhood, and I believed it gladly, for they told me what was already in my soul. But who discovered it? Not reason”

“ It was only then, for the first time, that he clearly understood what he had not understood when he led her out of the church after the wedding. He felt now that he was not simply close to her, but that he did not know where he ended and she began.”

“Against astrological determinism. The doctrine of influences could be carried so far as to exclude free will. … theology had to make a defence.“ what a fascinating concept aquinas and Lewis hold to that astrology is true for the masses as they do not exercise their role as imagers of God to resist the will of the stars

Unlike a preface to paradise lost, Jack assumes the reader is not just an educated student but an extremely well read student. Which I am not. I find myself having to stop and read short summaries of a variety of authors beyond the republic and timmaeus, as well as even more medieval works of Milton and Chaucer. He lists Lucan, Statius, claudian as if you know them well. Which I suppose his students would.

Very succinct, easy to follow and builds on each chapter quite well. I do wish for more citations for some claims.
