I've changed my mind and am starting to enjoy this book a lot. It fills in lots of gaps and complements MacCulloch's "History of Christianity"

The few things I know something about, in this book, are largely wrong.

This makes me wonder if the rest is also wrong.

Didn't finish on vacation. Mildly self-conscious since the film came out - it's a coincidence I promise.

Enjoyable to read this just after the Hoover bio. His CIA involvement is oversold.

Up to chapter four, in which he gets ignored by his dad (and thrown in the lake). putzes around at Yale, and bemoans not having more interesting war service.

Still, the wasp in me loves this book.

Cabin read

Read Hobart’s review in Capital Gains.

I thought this book would be good; it was recommended by the Globe and won the international prize for Arabic Fiction. It was not good. It was very, very bad.

Maybe some of this comes down to translation quality? But even better translation could not fix the terrible and shallow plot.

Great book. The repetition is boring, then it's funny, then it's serious.
