Enjoyable to read this just after the Hoover bio. His CIA involvement is oversold.

Up to chapter four, in which he gets ignored by his dad (and thrown in the lake). putzes around at Yale, and bemoans not having more interesting war service.

Still, the wasp in me loves this book.

Cabin read

Read Hobart’s review in Capital Gains.

I thought this book would be good; it was recommended by the Globe and won the international prize for Arabic Fiction. It was not good. It was very, very bad.

Maybe some of this comes down to translation quality? But even better translation could not fix the terrible and shallow plot.

They put this guy in charge of the FBI. Imagine putting a selfish, mildly psychotic, insecure person in charge of the U.S.’s national police service. Hmmm.
