I’m starting to see why this book didn’t do so well. It’s a slog. Page 200 and all that’s happened was Cori pissing and moaning in his head how bad he has it while trying to fake being fine on the outside. I don’t even give a shit about the tributes. I know it’s supposed to be revelatory when the reader realizes they’re sympathizing with the oppressor but we aren’t there yet.

Was really hoping for something to happen by now. Then something happened. Then the plot ground down to a halt immediately after. What’s going on here?

Theme of the traitor and the hero:
… a falsehood wrapped in a falsehood wrapped in a falsehood wrapped in a falsehood.

It may be time to take a little break and read something narrative.

From Wikipedia: In the introduction to…The Garden of Forking Paths, Borges remarks, "It is a laborious madness and an impoverishing one, the madness of composing vast books, setting out in five hundred pages an idea that can be perfectly related orally in five minutes. The better way to go about it is to pretend that those books already exist, and offer a summary, a commentary on them."

Very Ted Chaing vibe - he also loves to play with disproven worldviews.

Garden of Forking Paths:
Borges posits a primitive version of that mainstay that of preteen literature: the choose-your-own-adventure story.

Oh goodness, who published this mess? It’s clearly never been proofread. Typos, syntax, word choice, run-on sentences, pronoun swapping... just, yikes.

Pretty sure Stephen King's IT is a direct response to this book. They're practically identical except for the serial murders.

I made the mistake of judging this book by its cover. Although the cover leads me to believe this will be a good read, the insides do not keep that promise. Done without finishing.

I can't tell yet if this is a spoof of Harry Potter, or just straight (see what I did there) fanfic.

Read this in middle school. I wasn't really into vampires or romance, but I was a voracious reader and I didn't hate it. Let's see if it holds up...
